"You Are The One"

Edward M. Eggleston

Edward M. Eggleston - (1882-1941)

This oil on canvas painting, titled, "You Are The One" by Edward M. Eggleston, was created for use as a calendar, dated 1940. This is a great example of his brilliant use of color and light, used on many of his illustrations. The girl in this painting is stunning in her beautiful flowing gown. You can almost feel the texture of her dress. Edward Eggleston is one of our favorite artists, however, his original paintings are exceedingly hard to come by.

Edward M. Eggleston was born in Ashtsbula, Ohio on November 22, 1882. He attended the Columbus Ohio Art School, studying under artists such as Harvey Dunn, among others. He was a member of the Society of Illustrators, the Advertising Club of New York, and the Artist's Guild. Most of Edward Eggleston's calendar images are large oil on canvas paintings, though he worked in pastels, water colors, and gouache. His calendar images can be found on calendars from Brown and Bigelow, the Thomas D, Murphy Co., and Joseph C. Hoover and Sons. He also created a stunning series of posters for the Pennsylvania Railroad, showcasing his use of vivid bright color. He is only known to have produced fifteen magazine cover illustrations, however, he created countless advertising illustrations, which appeared in magazines. Many of his subjects were exotic Egyptian and pirate girls, as well as Indian maidens. His amazing use of light and color is unsurpassed. Edward Eggleston passed away in 1941, at the age of 58.
